VW Golf 4

The popularity of the Golf IV / Bora is also evidenced by the fact that after the appearance of the heir, some modifications of the fourth generation model were produced in parallel for almost 3 more years.

Bora was created on the Golf platform. Like its predecessors, it features a front end with characteristic rectangular optics. The Americans bore the name of the predecessor - Jetta.

The design of the "four" is classic, even somewhat strict. It does not contain pretentious elements fashionable for that time. Stylistically, it is made in the spirit of previous generations - a characteristic wide C-pillar, the elegant curve of which in the Golf IV, the creators decided to extend down to the wing arch. Continues the idea of "troika" and oval head optics. True, in the "four" it is more expressive - under the protective cap there are "rounds" of the lenses of the low and high beams of the headlights, dimensions and "turn signals". At the same time, the Golf IV in the "charged" versions of the GTI and VR6 has lost the aggression inherent in its predecessors. He looks like such a smiling good man. But it's true, it can not be called a disadvantage!

The bodies of the Golf IV/Bora are galvanized and the manufacturer gave a 12-year warranty against rust through. Its presence is a sure sign that the car managed to be in an accident.

Salon Golf IV / Bora is also made in a classic style, but at the same time it is very functional, and there are no comments on its ergonomics. It is convenient to sit behind the wheel for a person of any physique, the steering column adjustable in two directions and the height of the pilot's seat will help.

The range of powertrains offered for the Golf IV / Bora is very wide (see table): from the weakest 75-horsepower for ordinary users to the expressive 241-horsepower Golf R32 for those who know a lot about road sports cars. We most often see cars equipped with gasoline engines. The most widespread are 1.6-liter versions, 1.4-liter and 2.0-liter versions are slightly less common. "Charged" modifications of the GTI with a 1.8 liter Turbo and 2.3 liter VR5 engine will have to be looked for, as well as turbodiesel versions. The category of exotics includes atmospheric 1.8-liter "four" and row-shifted "six" VR6.

The 2.0-liter petrol engine is the least successful. It is characterized by increased oil consumption, the consumption of which on a car with a mileage of about 100 thousand km can reach up to 0.5 liters per 1000 km.

When operating all engines, remember to regularly (every 30 thousand km) replace the air filter, otherwise you can “play out” until the air flow meter fails. Over time, due to the ingress of crankcase gases, the throttle valve becomes clogged, and if it is not cleaned, the damper potentiometer will fail.
