Volkswagen Beetle

More than two years have passed since the debut of the third-generation Beetle, but this neoclassic has only just arrived. And now, finally, we have brought the long-awaited acquaintance with this charismatic car in order to appreciate how interesting such a bright, but completely impractical-looking car can be.

I often find myself visiting a Volkswagen - different-sized Golf, Trade Winds, Tiguan and Tuareg have passed through my hands. So I can responsibly declare that against the background of its correct and strict German relatives, the Beetle seems like a cheerful change, squeezed between important lessons.

sitting inside, I could not get rid of the feeling that I was driving an SUV - this illusion was created by a high ceiling, a wide interior and an almost vertical windshield. The former "Beetle" also did not suffer from a lack of headroom: being a large man - ninety meters - I felt a decent touch of air space above my head. However, shoulder-width apart, that car was cramped, and the instrument panel, which looked like a toy, did not impress me too much.

Now in front of me is an almost vertical front panel with body-colored plastic lining and the same stylish glove box lid as the post-war Beetle. At the same time, all modern electronics, in my opinion, are by no means out of tune with the spirit of that time: a compact “tidy” with an outstanding speedometer and a rudimentary tachometer and fuel gauge look more than appropriate here. Well, the additional three round ones sticking out of the dashboard give the interior a touch of sportiness, although, in my opinion, they are devoid of any functional significance: you see, the temperature of the oil in the engine, the boost pressure, the lap time is not the most necessary knowledge for a city dweller.

Among the basic equipment, 4 airbags, ESP, air conditioning, an MP3 audio system with a monochrome display and power accessories, including heated front seats, can be noted. And this is a completely self-sufficient option: even steel wheels covered with pretty caps do not worsen the appearance of the car.

the most expensive equipment involves a combination of a 1.4T engine with a DSG box and will require more than a million. Such a machine involves an inch larger alloy wheels and sporty notes in interior trim and exterior details.

The base for the "Beetle" was a 1.2-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 105 forces. However, this is not the engine that settled under the hood of the new Golf, Octavia and Leon: cars created on the MQB platform are equipped with a 16-valve power unit, which I fell in love with for its elasticity and efficiency, while the Beetle content with the pre-reform eight-valve version.

And the best one should be called the "Beatle-Design-1,4TSI" with a manual transmission - a rather nimble and, moreover, a very unusual car at a reasonable price.
