Audi A7 (2010-2017)

Engines

To drive the Audi A7, three gasoline and two diesel engines were used:

2.0 TFSI – R4 2.0 l / 252 hp (since 2014)

2.8 FSI – V6 2.8 l / 204 hp

3.0 TFSI – V6 3.0 l / 299 hp and 333 hp (since 2014)

3.0 TDI – V6 3.0 l / 245 hp

3.0 BiTDI – V6 3.0 L / 313-326 hp

All motors have a chain-type timing drive, which, unfortunately, sometimes requires attention after 100-150 thousand km. In all units, the chain is located on the side of the gearbox, so you have to remove the engine to access it. This significantly increases replacement costs.

2.0 TFSI, which appeared after restyling, is not widely used, and the runs are not yet great. At least, cases of maslozhora, as in weaker counterparts, have not been recorded in this version of the motor.

2.8 FSI in the past (back in the Audi A6 C6) often suffered from scuffing. After it was finalized, but unpleasant episodes still surfaced. Due to incidents in 2012, Audi even stopped offering this engine. But after trials and a number of improvements, the motor again returned to the list of available ones at the end of 2012.

One of the disadvantages of 2.8 FSI is clogged secondary air channels designed to purge catalysts (after 150-200 thousand km).

3.0 TFSI – most widely used. For supercharging the engine, not a turbocharger is used, but a mechanical supercharger of the Roots type, located in the collapse of the block.

The main problem with 3.0 TSFI is scuffing on the cylinder walls. The disease affected cars assembled before the end of 2013. At the end of 2013, modified engines appeared with a more durable coating on the cylinder walls. But annoying misfortunes still happened. The turning point was 2015, when the engine received cast-iron liners.

After 60-120 thousand km, the catalytic converter may fail. With its replacement it is better not to delay. The catalyst begins to gradually break down, which will lead to the ingress of ceramic chips into the cylinders, which in turn will provoke the appearance of scoring and subsequent overhaul of the engine.

Transmission

The Audi A7 came with quattro front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive versions no longer use the familiar Torsen. The new center differential is able to distribute the moment between the front and rear wheels over a wider range – up to 85% back and up to 70% forward. In normal mode, 60 percent of the thrust is transferred to the rear wheels. As an option, an active rear differential was offered, twisting the outer wheel in a turn.

The front-wheel drive variant was equipped with a Multitronic stepless V-chain CVT, and the all-wheel drive variant was equipped with a 7-speed S-tronic “wet-type” robotic dual-clutch transmission. With the most powerful bi-turbo diesel engine, an 8-band automatic transmission Tiptronic from ZF worked. It was also widely used in the A7, intended for the American market..

After restyling, the mechatronics were finalized, and unpleasant cases on early runs began to occur much less frequently. There are quite a few S-Tronic that have passed over 150-200 thousand km without mechatronics and clutch repairs.

The 8-speed Tiptronic is reputed to be a fairly reliable machine. Despite the fact that there are complaints about jolts, kicks and dips in traction, no real cases of repair have been noted. It is not necessary to look too early into the service for the repair of the box and the owners of the A7 with a CVT.
