Engine

Caddy got the most proven and reliable powertrains. Versions with diesel "fours" prevail on the market. These motors are virtually devoid of birth defects. And on a used car, it’s better to immediately pay attention to the condition of the pump nozzles and the oil pump.

Front suspension

Consumables here are considered stabilizer struts and rear silent blocks of levers. Ball bearings nursed 100,000 km or more. The same amount was released to the shock absorbers, along with which the support bearings of the struts should also be changed. As a rule, they rarely withstand longer than 100,000 km

Rear suspension

It is simple in design, so there are almost no problems with it. Unless, on average, after 100,000 km, shock absorbers will have to be updated. But with a careful driving style and a gentle load, they can last one and a half to two times longer.

Body

The Caddy has a durable, non-corrosive body. But after 5–7 years, the muffler rusts. There are complaints about the side windows, which do not close well from the inside and even leak. But in general, there are no problems with the hull - we note that there are very few emergency vehicles among used specimens.

In terms of practicality and functionality, the Volkswagen Caddy will give odds to many crossovers. It was originally created for all occasions.

If you dig into history, the Volkswagen Caddy was originally created as a delivery van for small businesses. First light commercial vehicle

this is how the manufacturer positioned this model - it was released in 1979. The car bore the Caddy Typ 14 index. And for 17 years of production, it has established itself as an unpretentious and reliable workhorse. The second generation (Caddy Typ 9K), which debuted in 1996, was already quite popular on the market. And the demand for the third generation model (Caddy Typ 2K), launched in 2004, was already taken for granted.

The car, based on the components and assemblies of the Golf V and Touran, having survived restyling in 2010, was produced as an all-metal Casten cargo van and a cargo-and-passenger station wagon Kombi

Five engines were installed on the Caddy: 1.4 liter petrol (80 hp) and 1.6 liter (102 hp), as well as 1.9 liter diesel (75 and 105 hp) and 2 .0 l (140 hp). A 5-speed manual was combined with all engines, and a robotic DSG was also offered for a 105-horsepower turbodiesel.

Gasoline engines are considered exemplary in terms of reliability. True, a 1.4-liter is not always enough. But the 1.6 liter engine is optimal for the Caddy. This well-deserved Volkswagen unit is durable and simple in design. When buying a car, check the condition or immediately replace the timing belt, the service life of which is 120,000 km. It can withstand even more, but where is the guarantee that the owner changed it before selling it. And this power unit has practically no weak points. Only oxygen and mass air flow sensors fall into the risk group.

On diesels, there is a risk of running into replacing pump injectors. And for 2.0-liter to 200,000 km, the oil pump drive shaft wears out, which can lead to expensive engine repairs. On a mechanical box, there have been rare cases of premature bearing wear. The clutch lives from 80,000 to 150,000 km. Consumables in the suspension — stabilizer bar and rear silent blocks of levers.
