Volkswagen Touran 2003-2015

Successful versions:

- If you are satisfied with a leisurely character, take a simple petrol 1.6 (102 hp) with mechanics, you will not lose. True, after 2010, such motors were not installed, so you have to choose from older options.

- If you can find a copy that is not with extreme mileage, consider the well-deserved 1.9 TDI diesel with electromechanical injectors, again until 2010. The potential resource is very large, although the motors are noisy.

- From fresh cars, you can consider diesel engines with Common Rail after 2010. The design is still more successful than small-capacity gasoline engines, although not without weaknesses.

- Again, if the car is fresh, the service history is transparent, and the diagnostics are comprehensive, then you can consider cars with late iterations of 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI. If we are talking about the options for 2014-2015, then you can even take a chance with DSG7 - the main childhood diseases have been resolved by this moment.

Failed Versions:

- Rare in our area 1.6 FSI (116 hp) and 2.0 FSI (150 hp) - petrol aspirated with direct injection. Motors will not please either operational properties or reliability.

- Early 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI turbo engines, especially in combination with DSG7. It is interesting to drive Turans with these motors, the consumption is also excellent, but the risk is unjustified. They were brought to a more or less decent level after 2012.

- Diesel 2.0 TDI until 2010 with piezo injectors. By themselves, they are much more expensive than electromechanical ones, and even more capricious about fuel quality.

- Try not to take Turan, who worked in a taxi or just wound up 300 thousand. Such options are found, especially with 1.9 TDI, which, although hardy, is within reasonable limits.

- Technically Turan from 2003 to 2015 is the same PQ35 platform, and the same generation. In Germany, this is considered one generation. We will adhere to the German classification.

- The first deep restyling (GP, global product update) took place in 2006. In addition to the updated optics in the spirit of the Passat B6, there have been significant changes in the engine-box range. A 1.4 TSI turbo engine appeared, which replaced two direct injection aspirated engines - 1.6 FSI and 2.0 FSI. The simplest version with an atmosphere of 1.6 MPI with distributed injection has so far remained in service. Instead of Aisin hydromechanical boxes, non-alternative DSG appeared.

- The second restyling (GP2), already in the style of the Passat B7, came in 2010. The unpretentious aspirated 1.6 MPI retired, replaced by 1.2 TSI. Diesel engines changed their power systems from unit injectors (PD) to Common Rail.

Suspension, brakes, chassis, steering

- Front MacPherson strut, rear - a design of three transverse and one trailing arm on each side. Separately, only the front ball joints are offered, and in the original, all silent blocks are assembled with levers and hubs are assembled with bearings. It is expensive to restore a worn-out suspension, but if it is not repaired "by knock", but preventively, and if you do not collect overpressed rubber bands, but install the original, then hundreds of thousands of chassis behave exemplarily.

Electrical, sensors, errors

- The electrical system of Turan (as well as all Volkswagens on the PQ35 platform) has two advantages. Firstly, it is perfectly diagnosed in the presence of a "dealer" VAG-COM scanner and a good diagnostician will "see" if something is wrong. Secondly, if you do not engage in independent retrofitting, or at least do it by the hands of an experienced craftsman who is familiar with the electrics of machines on the PQ35, it is really reliable.

- If the air conditioner does not cool, and the seller writes off the fact that "it is necessary to fill with freon", and even the radiators look clean, it is likely that the problem may lie in the failed compressor.

- Pay attention to the wiring harnesses going into the doors and trunk so that there are no creases.

- An urgent problem for Turans is the insufficient efficiency of the heater. It's cold in cars in winter, if in a simple way. And this applies not only to initially "cold" diesel engines, but also to gasoline TSI engines, the heat transfer of which is low. The problem is solved by installing additional heaters. And here is just the question of how skillfully it was installed.

i have a problem with my touran occasionally it takes a long time to start (as if ran out of fuel ) -- either because injector seal leaking very occasionally (still getting 50 mpg ) so have to bleed out air - new pumps front and rear OR BAD EARTH redistance eventually burns through because get DTC: 17055,Cylinder 1 Glow Plug Circuit
DTC: 16502,Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High Input
DTC: 16618,Charge pressure control; Regulating limit surpassed
DTC: 16567,Fuel Temperature Sensor A Circuit High Input
delete them but come back now air bag light comes on so looking for a common earth i have not found yet (cleaned all engine and fuel ecu earths thanks
