Skoda Octavia mk2 A5

Octavia A5, began to move away from the image of a poor relative of VW. She received all the same goodies and technologies that appeared in the Golf 6 and Jetta. Even the choice of charged versions remained, and the “default” liftback body, a huge station wagon and even the Scout “off-road vehicle” are pleasant advantages of this model. In general, it is not surprising that Octavia is more respected and chosen more often than boring and not so practical Germans on the same platform.

Body

Opinions about the paintwork of the Skoda Octavia A5 body are diametrically opposed. Someone from the owners knees himself in the chest and claims that the factory paint is just fine. However, there are a lot of those who list a typical problem for all VAG cars from the 2000s: the paint begins to fall off in flakes the size of a coin and larger.

The body of this car is galvanized, but we do not recommend driving for a long time with spots of bare metal: sooner or later it will bloom. And chipped paint should be covered with paint in body color. So it is more likely that later in this place a fragment of paint will remain in place.

Fog lights

The fog lights of the Skoda Octavia A5 have weak bases. If the lamp in the bumper stops burning or goes out at times, then you need to clean and bend the contacts in the base.

Trunk lid lock

On the Octavia, there is such a trifle: when the tailgate is open, the light does not light up in it, and the open door indicator does not light up on the instrument panel. The problem is a tired microswitch built into the lock.

Trapeze wipers

Not so rare on the Octavia A5, the trapezium of the wipers turns sour: either the brushes start to move slowly, or they freeze altogether. As usual, the rods jam on the bushings. It is worth getting to these joints at least once a year in order to lubricate them well.

Wiring

There are complaints about the wiring, which, again, is typical for all VAG models of the 2000s. Usually the wiring harness to one of the doors breaks: first, the braid bursts and flies around, then the bare wires burst. If a short circuit occurs in the power window motor wiring, the fuse will blow. Then the windows are switched off in pairs.

Stove fan

Often, on the Octavia, with a run of about 150,000 km, the “stove” fan begins to creak. Dried bearings of its axis creak.

The fan is not difficult to remove after dismantling the glove compartment. A couple of drops of oil in the bearings can solve the problem. Another solution is to replace the bearings themselves. A new original fan costs $600.
