1965 Frankfurt. At the motor show, Audi presents a small sedan, which became one of the first cars of this company after the war. The Audi F103 was a heavily redesigned front wheel drive DKW F102 sedan that was released in 1963. The novelty was released in 2 body types: a sedan with two or four doors. Under the hood was a 1.7-liter engine with a return of 72 horsepower.

Later, modifications of the Audi 80 and Super 90 were presented, where the numbers indicated the power of the power unit in horsepower. At the same time, the basic version was renamed Audi 72. And after that, in 1972-1973, the first generation of the Audi 80 B1 was released. Initially, the model was released in a sedan with two doors. Later, a station wagon and a sedan with four doors were launched on the market. In 1976, the Audi 80 B1 undergoes a facelift, during which the car’s round headlights changed to square ones. In total, the Audi 80 B1 sold 1.1 million copies.

The second generation of the Audi 80 B2 comes out in 1978. In the US market, this car came out under the name Audi 4000. In this generation, sedan cars with two and four doors were produced. Basically, there was a 4-door sedan on the market, and there was no Audi 80 B2 station wagon at all.

Released in 1986, the third generation of the Audi 80 B3 had a fully galvanized body. This car was sold under the brand name “80”, and in parallel, the sale of the Audi 90 car was carried out, which had 5-cylinder engines, rich equipment and some differences in appearance. And under the hood of the Audi 80 B3, engines with a volume of 1.4-2 liters up to 135 “horses” worked. In addition, a 1.6-liter turbocharged diesel engine with a return of 80 horsepower also appeared.

In total, the German company produced 1.62 million copies of the Audi 80 B3 from 1986 to 1991. Based on the “80s” of the third generation, models such as Coupe and Cabriolet were released.

The 4th generation car Audi 80 B4 comes out in 1991 quite seriously modernized.

German designers have carried out a number of improvements to the suspension, engines, transmissions, and so on. The equipment of the Audi 80 has undergone a serious revision, and a driver’s airbag has appeared in standard equipment. The Avant wagon appears in the 80 family. Now all cars under the Audi 80 brand were sold in the European market, and the Audi 90 in the American market. In 1996, the assembly of the Audi 80 B4 ceases, and with it the history of the entire 80 family ends. Instead of this car, the Audi A4 model appears on the market.
